Decking out the home office

When I originally started my marketing agency in a spare bedroom years ago, I had no idea what it would take to set up a comfortable and efficient space. I spent my entire career in enormous organizations with facilities and departments to take care of everything. I only had to worry about the work.
I’m fortunate [...]

Gulf Coast 40 Under 40

I am very honored to be selected as one of the Gulf Coast’s 40 Under 40 and to be associated with such an accomplished group of people!

Saturday Stuff - Stamp

Today was the St. Petersburg Downtown Business Association’s Sunrise Sale, and one of the participating shops was the super cute, Embellish.  I love personalization, and nothing is more customized than a monogram.
I’ve purchased monogrammed stationery from a variety of stationers, but I’ve always wanted one of these self-inking stamps. The problem is, I can’t decide what [...]

And that’s a personal brand.

“A brand should strive to own a word in the minds of the consumer.”  It’s one of the key messages in Al and Laura Ries’ book, 22 Immutable Laws of Branding.  I use this gem in every marketing and branding presentation I give, with national examples (Volvo, FedEx, Nordstrom) and a few locals (Beef O’Brady’s, Beltz [...]

Our Clean Up Crislip project was a huge success with nearly 70 volunteers who gave their time and talents to clean up the 600 block of Central Avenue. Now that the arcade and adjacent storefronts are empty, there are artists and businesses ready to rent!
Progress!

Your best customer is the one you’re already with

You’ve probably seen the commercial. A young man is having lunch at sidewalk café with his very pretty girlfriend. As she’s talking to him, two lovely young women walk by, distracting the fellow to the point of leering. The girlfriend texts him a message calling him a pig.
The TV spot is funny because … well [...]

Saturday Stuff - Tags

I do a lot of research with my job. While most of it is online these days, I still love flipping through a book or magazine.
These punctuated page markers from See Jane Work are way cuter (and I’d argue, more effective) than plain, old post-it markers. They make me smile.
And isn’t a smile worth $8?

BYOB - Bring your own broom

We need painters, sweepers, cleaners, movers and shakers to volunteer this Saturday to help Clean Up Crislip!  The owners are letting us into the abandoned shops to clear out the trash, collect the items suitable for sale, and clean up the graffiti.
Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Please bring your supplies as well.
See CleanUpCrislip.com for [...]

Saturday Stuff - Sharpie Sherpa

Alright, so now you know all about my Sharpie addiction.  But even I didn’t know there are accessories for Sharpies!  Sherpa makes shells that hold a variety of pens, including the classic Sharpie.
My favorite is, of course, Mr. Pinstripe, but in honor of Independence Day, I’ll feature Ole Glory.
At $29.99, its an investment, but so [...]
