Saturday Stuff - Your Business Editor

For once, my Saturday Stuff post is about getting rid of stuff!  I had the good fortune of meeting Tina Fischer through the Leadership St Pete Alumni Association. We quickly became friends, and then I started learning more about what she does.
And what she does is fantastic!

Decking out the home office

When I originally started my marketing agency in a spare bedroom years ago, I had no idea what it would take to set up a comfortable and efficient space. I spent my entire career in enormous organizations with facilities and departments to take care of everything. I only had to worry about the work.
I’m fortunate [...]

I am very honored to be selected as one of the Gulf Coast’s 40 Under 40 and to be associated with such an accomplished group of people!

Pinstripe Wins Silver ADDY at District Competition

This weekend was the 4th District American Advertising Federation’s ADDY Awards. Part of a three-level competition, the District winners go on to compete at the nationals.
We are very pleased that our new stationery package won a silver ADDY in the agency self promotion category.
So what is with the ad? Yes, it’s true, most of our [...]

Buying Local - The 3/50 Project

Yes indeed, times are tough. Turn on the news and there is a tidal wave of bad news about the economy. The government is “bailing out” companies that drove themselves into the ground, and unfortunately, will do it again.
So it is up to us.
The 3/50 Project is a grassroots effort to encourage us to spend [...]

Tampa Bay 100

I had the honor of being selected as one of the ‘Tampa Bay 100‘ by Tampa Bay CEO Magazine, which recognizes 100 people who influence economic development and the community.  The gala, held at the Quorum Hotel in Tampa, was a great event. We met a few new friends, had fun with old ones, and enjoyed [...]

I hope you’re right.

I was selected as one of ten business leaders to meet with Governor Charlie Crist at the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce this morning to discuss our businesses, what we’re seeing in the marketplace, and what the state can do (or stop doing) to make it better for us.
It was a brief meeting, so there [...]

Consider our seatbelts fastened.

We are working on a pitch for a new piece of work that will include traditional and new media, and this is definitely new.  Developed with FLARToolKit, an even cooler version of Actionscript 3, you can create a nifty 3D whatchamacallit.  I don’t know what you call it.
Using a paper tracking target, some javascript/flash, a webcam [...]

Open letter to Florida Legislature: Do not repeal ad tax exemption

I wrote the following letter to Representative Michael Scionti, encouraging him and his colleagues to keep the tax exemption for advertising services.  While it could appear to be a simple case of self-preservation, I honestly believe that this would be detrimental to Florida businesses. If you agree, write a letter. If you disagree, well… don’t.

Representative [...]
